Dean Long, MSW Intern

Does the world you thought you once knew seem increasingly absurd, unrecognizable? Has life begun to feel burdensome or directionless? Have joy and curiosity evaporated into fear, anxiety, or hopelessness? Are you feeling defeated by grief, loss, or perhaps anger bordering on rage?

You’re not alone, nor do you have to be alone in those thoughts and feelings. From my own experience, I know how difficult it is to break old habits and set out on a path of healing. I can also testify to the value of a therapeutic relationship when it comes to finding and traversing that path.

My therapeutic approach is trauma-informed and client-centered. I lead with compassion and curiosity. While I am motivated by elements of liberation psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and narrative therapy, I lean heavily on my humanities background and continue to draw inspiration from Marxism, feminism, and postcolonial theory.

Currently, I am a student intern in the Master of Social Work program at Portland State University, working toward my licensure as a clinical social worker.

Outside of school and practicum I enjoy reading ancient books of forgotten lore, exploring the strange wonders of the natural world, and spending time with my wife and our two floofball cats.

If you feel like we’d be a good fit, feel free to send me an email and I’ll try to respond within 2 business days.

Bella ciao!
